Serious Accident on Grandview Ave.

Injuries appear minor, police say

Grandview Avenue was the scene of a significant traffic accident this morning, which shut down Grandview Avenue from the Hawthorne border to Nancy Lane and the ramps onto 208 from about 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

A pickup truck turning from 208 North onto Grandview Avenue failed to yield or stop police say, striking a minivan travelling north on the road, causing minor injuries to both drivers.

The minivan, after being struck, idled in a neighboring resident's hedges approximately 20 feet from the initial impact, its front passenger's side bumper entirely displaced from the vehicle. The pickup truck also had major front end damage. The only injuries to both drivers are airbag-related, to the chest, and are not considered life threatening.

"They should really have a light here," said Matilda Daunno, a 50-year resident of Grandview Avenue. "There are way too many accidents at this intersection."

Wyckoff police, fire and rescue were all on scene to investigate the cause of the accident, rescue the injuried parties and clear the site of glass, plastic, oil and steel.

Lt. Charles Van Dyk said although traffic accidents of this nature are rare in Wyckoff, "once in a while we have an accident and it's a pretty good one."

The ramps to 208, as well as Grandview Avenue are now open.
