Route 208 Collision Under Investigation

Two injured in 'road rage' incident

A Wednesday night collision on Route 208 southbound is under investigation, with charges possible.

Two people suffered minor injuries and were transported to Hackensack University Medical Center after a collision that shut the roadway for several hours.

Lt. David Murphy said a Dodge Durango and a Ford Escape collided south of the Ewing Avenue exit in Franklin Lakes in what he characterized as a "road rage" incident. The collision, which occurred just after 10 p.m., initially spun both vehicles into the highway divider, which sent the Durango and Escape careening across the highway, ultimately coming to rest in the woods along Route 208.

The driver of the Durango, whose name was not released, was trapped in his SUV, necessitating Fire Department assistance to extricate him from the vehicle, Murphy said.

That driver and his passenger were transported to the hospital by the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps with "minor injuries." The driver of the Escape did not require hospitalization.
