Residents Reminded to Clear Sidewalks of Snow

Violators face potential fines up to $500

The Wyckoff Police Department would like to remind residents to keep their sidewalks clear of snow.

According to township code, sidewalks must be kept free of snow and ice, and pushing shoveled snow out into a plowed street is prohibited. Those who don't comply with those ordinances face a potential fine of up to $500.

Residents are asked to wait at least eight hours after snow stops falling to shovel, so plows don't throw snow back onto cleared sidewalks. Additionally, snow must be removed from sidewalks within 12 hours of daylight at the end of a storm.

Additionally, residents are asked to arrange for their sidewalks to be shoveled if they are on a trip during a storm. While such action is needed for pedestrian safety, police say it also will deter potential burglars looking for an unoccupied home.
