Police: Resident's Call Leads to Heroin, Oxycontin Arrests

Franklin Lakes resident called police to report two men parked on Iron Latch Road smoking marijuana in the car, police said.

Two men carrying about five different drugs in their car were arrested on a residential street in Franklin Lakes last week after a local resident called cops to report their suspicious activity, police said in a release Monday.

At about 2:47 last Thursday afternoon, a resident of Iron Latch Road reported seeing two men sitting inside a Jeep parked on the road smoking marijuana, Franklin Lakes Lt. John Bakelaar announced in a release Monday afternoon. Responding officers found marijuana, heroin, OxyContin, anxiety medication alprazolam, and other prescription drugs in the car, Bakelaar said.

Alimirza Hakimi, 23, of Parsippany, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, OxyContin, alprazolam, drug paraphernalia, and a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, Bakelaar said. Mohammed Behi, 27, of Lake Hiawatha, was arrested and charged with possession of suboxone, marijuana, oxycontin, and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Bakelaar said police do not know why the two were in the borough.

Though Bakelaar said the amounts of drugs each man had was not particularly large, the incident highlights a trend in drug arrests in Franklin Lakes, and throughout all of northern NJ.

There is certainly an increase in the amount of heroin possession and illegal possession of prescription drug [arrests in Franklin Lakes],” he said.

Both men were released of their own recognizance, police said.
