Police: Woman Smashes Into Franklin Lakes Utility Pole, Keeps Driving Drunk

West New York woman was arrested over the July 4 weekend after the accident on High Mountain Road, police said.

A West New York woman was arrested in Franklin Lakes over the 4th of July weekend after she allegedly drove drunk, crashed into a utility pole, and kept driving, Detective Lt. John Bakelaar announced in a release this week.

According to Bakelaar, Brianna Alonso, 19, allegedly struck a utility pole on High Mountain Road at about 6:52 a.m. on July 5. She then continued driving until her car became disabled about 1,100 feet away, police said.

Alonso was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident, Bakelaar said.

Franklin Lakes Police announced before the holiday they would be increasing DWI patrols throughout the weekend.
