Police: Motorist Drives Into Richard Place Home

Residents OK, but house declared unfit for occupancy

The occupants of a Richard Place home had to relocate Wednesday night after a motorist drove into their house.

A home at the intersection of Sicomac Avenue and Richard Place was declared unfit for occupancy after a driver from Green Pond, 52, struck the house at about 8:25 p.m. Police said the driver was traveling west on Sicomac Avenue in a Land Rover when he left the roadway, striking a mailbox, signs and trees. When he reached the intersection of Richard Place, he drove across a lawn and hit the home, police said.

The driver had to be removed from his vehicle with the assistance of the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department. He also had to be taken to the hospital by the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps for head and leg injuries sustained in the crash.

Although no one in the home was injured, the impact of the crash caused significant structural damage, which led the Wyckoff building inspector to declare it uninhabitable.

Police took a blood sample from the driver as part of a continuing investigation into the incident. No charges had been filed as of Thursday.
