Police: Intoxicated Man Refuses to Leave Abma's Farm, Spits on Cops

Man became 'combative' when police asked him to leave the farm market in Wyckoff, police said.

A drunken Midland Park man who refused to leave Abma's Farm in Wyckoff Tuesday is accused of spitting on police while they were attempting to remove him from the market, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said in a release Thursday.

According to Fox, an Abma employee called police at about 5:56 p.m. Tuesday to report that Gregory Ross, 21, was intoxicated and refused to leave. Ross works for Tomasello Winery in Hammonton, which recently started leasing space at Abma's to sell wine, Fox said.

Cops found Ross inside and walk-in cooler, and when they asked him to leave, Fox said he became "combative."

"While subduing him, he spat at the officers and they ultimately took him into custody following a struggle," Fox said.

He was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and sent to a hospital for medical observation due to his intoxicated state, police said.
