Police: Gift Ripped from Package, Stolen from Wyckoff Front Door

Cops say a $500 purse was stolen during daylight hours.

A few weeks after reports of back-to-back daytime purse thefts from locked parked cars in Wyckoff, a resident has reported that a gift delivered to a township home was stolen from the front yard, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said in a release Thursday.

According to Fox, a Sunset Boulevard resident reported to police Wednesday evening that when she returned home, a box that had been delivered to her front door had been torn open and a designer purse stolen from inside it. The purse was valued at about $500, police said.

“The woman reported it to us at 4:57 p.m.,” Fox said.

“That's right around the time it starts to get dark, so presumably it was [stolen] during daylight.”

This incident comes less than a week after the second of two daytime purse thefts from locked cars parked in the parking lot of the Wyckoff YMCA. In both of those incidents, thieves smashed windows of cars to steal purses that were left on car seats. Both thefts occurred during daylight hours, police said.
