Police Blotter: Drug Charges and Fraud

The Franklin Lakes Police Department report the following activity in the last week.

A Haledon man was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop. According to the police, Raji Basha, 25, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and having an expired driver's license. Officer Donald Wilson stopped Basha at the intersection of High Mountain Road and Reservoir Drive. 

Checks stolen from a mailbox on Cherokee Lane in October were reportedly cashed last week. According to the report,  on Feb. 2 a resident reported the checks were used in trasactions totalling $274. Det. Anthony Pacelli investigated.

A Franklin Lake Road residence reported a fraud on Feb. 3 that lead to the arrest of Kimberly Cooper, 22, of Saugerties, NY.  According to police, two individuals — a male and a female, both white — approached the elderly homeowner and offered to clear her roof and driveway of ice and snow. The homeowner wrote a check for $300, which was promptly cashed at a local bank. However, the promised work was never performed. Lt. Donald Osenbruck and Det. Anthony Pacelli investigated. Cooper was identified as the female suspect, charged with theft by deception, with bail set at $1,500. The male suspect has not yet been identified.

A borough woman was arrested at her home Jan. 25 on charges of possession of heroin and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. According to police, Officers Andrew Cacciatore and Nicholas Klein responded to a disturbance at a Colonial Road residence, which resulted in the arrest of 45-year-old Kathleen Sternick.
