Unlicensed Teen, Rock-throwing Tweens

Waldwick youth charged with wrecking family car

Wyckoff police officers have responded to the following incidents thus far in September:

  • A 15-year-old Waldwick boy was issued a variety of complaints after police said he was injured after taking his family's car for a ride.

Patrolman Brian Zivkovich investigated a motor vehicle accident at 1:40 p.m. Sept. 3 at the intersection of Dale Avenue and Morley Drive. Police said the motorist, driving a 1995 Toyota, had left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Zivkovich arrived to find the car with "severe damage," but the motorist was not present.

Police said a subsequent investigation determined that the car had been driven by the Waldwick teen, who had allegedly taken the family vehicle for a ride without permission. He also suffered a minor injury in the accident. He was charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving while unlicensed and failure to maintain his lane of travel. The complaints will be heard in both juvenile and municipal court.

  • Police charged two Highland Avenue residents with assault on Sept. 14 after investigating a domestic violence call.

Sgt. Dale Winters and Patrolman Brenda Groslinger said that a husband and wife struck and injured each other while having an argument during a party at the home. Both are summoned to Municipal Court.

  • Four Wyckoff boys who were allegedly throwing rocks at a vacant home were charged with criminal mischief on Sept. 4.

Patrolmen William Plisich and Michael DeMaio said they responded to a report at Demarest Avenue that afternoon to find four youths, all 12, fleeing from the home. The officers said that the boys broke several windows at the vacant residence.

Each was charged on juvenile complaints and released to his parents. The complaints will be heard in Bergen County Juvenile Court.

  • A Mahwah man was charged with driving while intoxicated at 2 a.m. Sept. 3.

Police said that a vehicle driven by John D. Forfia, 37, of Day Street was observed swerving outside of its lane of travel on Route 208. Patrolman DeMaio stopped the car after it exited at Cedar Hill Avenue and subsequently arrested Forfia. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and failure to maintain his lane. He was released to a family member.
