Part of Route 17 Will be Closed Again This Weekend

Work to repair the railroad grade crossing, which runs along Route 17 in Lodi, will be done to the Northbound side this time shutting down the roadway in the area over the weekend.

Motorists are reminded that the work to fix the railroad grade crossing which runs along Route 17 in Lodi will once again shut down part of the roadway this weekend as construction continues on the northbound side.

The Route 17 North roadway is expected to be shut down in the area of Route 80 and Essex Street in Lodi around 8 p.m., Friday, June 29 and will reopen around 5 a.m. Monday, July 2, the state Department of Transportation .

Motorists heading north on Route 17 will be directed to take I-80 westbound to Exit 63 (Lodi/Fair Lawn) to Essex Street eastbound to Route 17 northbound, as per the DOT.

Once again NJ Transit bus customers are advised to expect delays to service on Essex Street, Market Street, Summit Avenue and Polify Road this weekend.

This New York Susquehanna &Western rail crossing is being rehabilitated as its condition had deteriorated rapidly in recent weeks resulting in the need for numerous emergency repairs to keep the highway in operation while this permanent repair was planned, the DOT reported.

The railroad contractor will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches to provide a safer and smoother driving surface, reports the DOT. The cost of the work is approximately $385,000.
