No Relief This Week for Traffic Woes at Busy Intersection

PSE&G has for the third time this week revised its estimates for completion of underground repairs at Wyckoff and Franklin avenues. The utility company expects to move on by Friday evening, but won't rule out additional work on Monday.

Wyckoff residents and local commuters traveling through the intersection at Wyckoff and Franklin avenues will get no relief this week as underground construction is expected to continue plaguing the downtown business district at least until Friday evening, officials announced today.

Construction delays have forced PSE&G to again delay the completion of repairs to underground gas lines at the intersection, which they had told township officials earlier this week could be completed as early as Tuesday.

Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said Thursday afternoon that there had been no accidents at the intersection all week despite the backups, delays and unexpected traffic patterns.

Fox remained hopeful that the crews would be able to complete the work before the week's end, but said if additional time is needed at the intersection after tomorrow the work would have to be continued on Monday.

Township officials sent out an eblast to residents Thursday afternoon warning of "full or partial lane closures that will require traffic to be detoured" at the intersection of Wyckoff and Franklin avenues.

Construction will take place from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., according to the eblast.

Officials had roadwork would likely be complete by Tuesday but hedged, saying that the gas line repairs could affect commuters into Wednesday. Late Tuesday that PSE&G officially extended their work schedule into Wednesday and "possibly into Thursday."
