Man Injured in Motorcycle Accident Charged with DWI, Cops Say

Oakland Man was transported to the hospital with 'moderate' injuries, police said.

An Oakland man was arrested on DWI charges after a motorcycle accident early Saturday morning sent him to the hospital, Franklin Lakes Police announced in a release Monday morning.

According to Franklin Lakes Det. Lt. John Bakelaar, Jason Eilert, 29, was driving his motorcycle north on Colonial Road near Summit Avenue at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday when he lost control, slid into the shoulder of the road, and crashed into the curb.

Eilert was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with “moderate injuries,” Bakelaar said.

Eilert was arrested and charged with DWI, Driving with a Suspended License and Reckless Driving, as well as driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, Bakelaar said.

Police said they were unsure about the extent of the damage to his motorcycle. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, cops said.
