Large Tree Branch Falls on Godwin Ave, Prompting Accident; Power Knocked Out

Car hits tree; power out for some residents; Godwin closed from Crescent Ave. to Harding Road

According to eyewitnesses, a large tree branch on Godwin Avenue fell at around 10:30 p.m., knocking down wires, causing an auto accident, and killing the power for a few residents near Demarest Avenue and Godwin Avenue.

Cars attempted to navigate around the large branch, but due to the slick roads from the earlier rainstorms one car skidded and struck the large branch. Wires fell onto the vehicle, but the driver was able to walk away from the scene. It isn't believed the driver sustained any injuries, though the car was damaged in the accident. Police responded to the scene and closed Godwin Avenue between Crescent Avenue and Harding Road.

As of late Friday, the power was still out in the immediate area for a few homes, but workers from Rockland Electric Co. were repairing lines to restore power, and a bulldozer arrived to clear the scene of the downed branch.
