Ogdensburg Man Found Guilty in 2008 Assault Against Police Chief

Russell Stewart was found guilty by a jury today in Bergen County Superior Court of one count of attempting to disarm a firearm from a law enforcement officer, and also guilty of aggravated assault upon a police officer. He was found not guilty of assault charges against the drivers and passengers in vehicles that he struck.

Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox testified last week that Stewart scuffled with him and attempted to grab his firearm after Stewart got into a motor vehicle accident on September 11, 2008.
 
Judge Edward Jerejian remanded Stewart to the Bergen County Jail without bail and he will be sentenced on March 18, according to Fox
