Franklin Lakes PD Warns of Text Message Scams

PD has seen an increased number in the borough, alert says.

The Franklin Lakes Police Department recently released the following warning via an email blast to residents:

Recently, the Franklin Lakes Police Department has received an increase in phone text message scams.

The victims receive a text message that claims to be from their credit card company. The message reports that there is a problem with their credit card or that it has been canceled. The sender usually requests that you call them back or text them your personal information to reinstate the credit card.

It is recommended that you never provide your personal information through a text message or unsolicited phone call. Always contact your credit card company, bank or other financial institution using a known phone number such as from one of your saved statements.
