Franklin Lakes Home Burglarized While Owners Were Away

Residents of a borough home, whose front door “may have inadvertently been unlocked” while they were away for five days, returned home Tuesday to find a burglar had rifled through their possessions, police said.

The homeowners left their Mohican Lane house July 4, police said, and reported the burglary to authorities when they returned.

When Det. Sgt. Anthony Pacelli and Officers Robert Smith and Francis O’Brien responded, they found no signs of forced entry to the home, and the residents were “not positive the door was locked” while they were away, Lt. John Bakelaar said.

According to police, the burglary was targeted in the master bedroom and closet, where drawers were found opened and the contents within rifled through and stolen.

The value of the missing items is yet to be determined, as police wait for the homeowners to compile a list of the stolen goods.
