Crook Evades Police Following Brazen Mid-Day Buglary

Burglar broke into a Franklin Lakes home and stole jewelry, police say

A man locked himself in a bathroom and called police on Wednesday afternoon after hearing a buglar break into his home, according to police.

The Seneca Road resident called 911 at 1:32 p.m. to report that an unknown person had forced open the home's back door, said  Lieutenant John Bakelaar.

The homeowner ran to an upstairs bathroom and locked the door, Bakelaar said, adding that there was no confrontation between the burglar and homeowner.

Cops, on the scene within three minutes, found bedrooms and an office had been ransacked. Bakelaar said that officers spent approximately 20 minutes clearing the house.

According to information provided to police from the homeowner, an unknown amount of jewelry had been stolen.

Cops from the borough, , North Haledon, and the Passaic County Sheriff's Department set up a perimeter of the area but the crook evade police and no arrests were made. 

Franklin Lakes Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation, according to Bakelaar.
