Cops: Thief Busts Car Window in YMCA Parking Lot

The Y says it had been planning to add outdoor security cameras in 2014 anyway.

A thief made off with a designer bag and an undetermined amount of cash last week after busting a car window parked in the Wyckoff YMCA parking lot, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said in a release this week.

At about 4:30 in the afternoon last Friday, Nov. 29, a Y patron reported to police that her car had been broken into while she was inside, Fox said.

A “designer handbag had been left visible on the rear seat, and someone had smashed out the window and stole the bag and contents that included cash, identification, and a bank card,” Fox said.

Representatives of the Y said Thursday they were not aware of this incident, but that the facility is in the midst of a planned security update.

“We are [planning] on installing cameras on the exterior of the building during 2014 as part of our security upgrade plan,” Joyce Kwiatkowski of the YMCA said.

“We are continuing to utilize the interior camera surveillance system and it has been very effective in curtailing theft.”
