Christian Health Care Employee Stole Checks from Elderly Residents, Cops Say

Paterson woman who was working as a nurse's assistant in the nursing home was arrested in Wyckoff Wednesday, police say.

Police nabbed a Christian Health Care Center employee who they say stole over $5,000 in checks from residents of the Heritage Manor Nursing Home.

According to a release from Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox, Joyce King, 40, of Paterson, was arrested Wednesday after a one-month long investigation into stolen checks led cops to her.

King, a part-time nursing assistant at the nursing home, was charged with six counts of theft after allegedly stealing six blank checks from five different residents at the facility, Fox said.

“She then wrote checks to both herself and friends that totaled $5,200,” he said.

After complaints from residents about the missing checks, Wyckoff Police Det. Sgt. Joseph Soto and Det. Sgt. Michael Musto conducted a one-month investigation, he said.

The, “cooperation of staff and management of the Christian Health Care Center…enabled police to uncover the person responsible,” Fox said.

King has been released on her own recognizance and the complaints have been referred to Bergen County Superior Court, police said.
