Burglars Strike Summit Ave. Home

UPDATE: Police say the incident might be related to other recent burglaries in the borough.

Burglars got away with more than $2,000 cash after a Summit Avenue home was burglarized sometime Tuesday, according to Franklin Lakes Police.

Someone pushed in the air conditioner unit in a rear window at the borough home sometime between 8 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., said Franklin Lakes Police Sgt. John Bakelaar.

“The primary focus of attack was the master bedroom,” Bakelaar said Wednesday morning.

A yet-to-be-determined amount of jewelry and approximately $2,000 in cash were stolen, he said.

This burglary, cops said, shared some characteristics with a similar incident at an Alpine Drive home last week.

"We are looking into the possibility of the burglaries being connected," Bakelaar.

Police do not believe the burglaries are connected to a string of recent car thefts in the borough, he said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit processed the scene, and Franklin Lakes Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Jost, Sgt. Andrew Cacciatore, and Officers Gerard Gansel and Dennis Hill investigated.
