Borough Appoints New Police Officer

William Zangara appointed at Nov. 1 meeting

The Franklin Lakes Mayor and Council appointed William Zangara as a police officer for the borough at their November 1st meeting. 

Zangara, 24, is a resident of Highland Lakes. He completed basic police training at the Passaic County Police Academy, and graduated in December 2010.

Prior to his graduation, Zangara was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law & Justice at Rowan University in May 2010, and achieved Emergency Medical Technician status earlier this year.

He also worked as a police dispatcher for the Hardyston Police Department.

Zangara is the 21st sworn officer in the department, according to Lt. John Bakelaar. In 2009, Franklin Lakes had 23 officers in its ranks.
