Benz Stolen From Franklin Lakes Driveway, Cops Say

Theft was one of two parked car break-ins in Franklin Lakes this week, police say.

Two cars parked outside Franklin Lakes homes were targeted by thieves over the weekend, Franklin Lakes Lt. John Bakelaar announced in a release Tuesday. According to police, one of the thieves made off with some cash that was inside the unlocked car, and the other made off with the entire car.

Monday, a Hemlock Court resident reported that his 2011 Mercedes Benz had been stolen from his driveway sometime between Saturday and Monday, Bakelaar said.

The man, “did not remember whether the key fob was left in the vehicle,” Bakelaar said.

Also on Monday, police said an Ottowa Lane resident reported $300 in cash and a few clothing items had been stolen overnight from a friend’s car parked in her driveway, Bakelaar said.

These thefts mark the latest in several similar incidents police have recently reported in Franklin Lakes. In September, an unlocked Porsche was stolen from a borough driveway during the day, while the residents were at home.
