Back-to-Back Franklin Lakes Break-Ins May Be Related, Cops Say

Two borough homes were burglarized Monday, police say.

Franklin Lakes Police say they are investigating the possibility that two home break-ins in the borough on Monday could be related, Police Lt. John Bakelaar said.

The first incident happened “earlier in the day,” Bakelaar said at a home on Franklin Lake Road. Burglars broke into the home by forcing open a side door, he said. Cops were alerted to break-in after the owners got home.

At 3:09 p.m., police responded to a second break-in on Pond Brook Road, Bakelaar said. Burglars pushed through the front door to enter the house, but set off an alarm, which alerted cops to the scene, police said.

Bakelaar said that both crime scenes were processed by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. Both homes’ residents are still compiling lists of everything that was stolen, cops said.
