Aggressive Traffic Violation Enforcement Planned in Franklin Lakes

The Franklin Lakes Police Department will be implementing 'Operation Safe-Streets' to help stop the speeding problem on Borough roads.

Franklin Lakes Police routinely receive complaints regarding vehicles exceeding the 25 MPH speed limit that is in effect on all streets within Franklin Lakes (excluding county and state roadways).

The problem persists even in local developments and often times the speeders are Borough residents themselves. The Franklin Lakes Police Department, with the support of the Mayor and Council, will be initiating “Operation Safe-Streets” in the Borough.

Pedestrians, bicyclists, children at play, domestic animals and vehicles all share the roadway and to ensure the safety of all roadway users the FLPD will be employing an “additional level of aggressive traffic violation enforcement.”

“The goal here is not to give tickets. It is to get people to slow down,” said Franklin Lakes Mayor Frank Bivona. “This time of year it is important to remind drivers that there are more people out walking and exercising. This is all about public safety."

The police will be keeping a closer eye on side streets and local developments in the near future. Speeding is never a good idea but you may want to be particularly careful with an increase pedestrian population and a more watchful eye from local authorities.
