5 Things You Can Do To Prevent Burglary

Advice for residents to protect their homes and property from burglary and theft.

Wyckoff Polcie issued a set of summer vacation safety reminders this week to keep your home safe while you're away.

1. Arrange for regular maintenance, like grass cutting, to continue normally and put automatic timers on lights to give the appearance that someone is home. Also, keep your locked car in the driveway or have a neighbor park in your driveway.

2. Lock all doors, windows, garages and sheds.

3. Stop mail and newspaper delivery. If you receive advertising circulars, ask a neighbor to pick them up for you.

4. Turn down the volume on your phone's ringer and don't leave an answering machine message that says you're on vacation.
