Bergen Plastic Surgeon Vincent Bagli Dies at 88

A longtime Franklin Lakes resident, Bagli had practices in Fair Lawn and Ridgewood, and was the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Hackensack Hospital.

The following was submitted to Patch by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home.

Dr. Vincent Joseph Bagli, former chief of plastic surgery at Hackensack Hospital and father of 12 children, died peacefully Monday in West Orange, NJ. He was 88.  

Dr. Bagli was born in Paterson, NJ in 1925 to Charles V. and Teresa Badagliacca, and raised in Paterson and Passaic, NJ and Los Angeles, CA. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943. He received an honorable discharge in 1945 and attended Georgetown University College and Medical School on the GI Bill, graduating in 1951.  

He resumed active duty with the Air Force and trained in general surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and at the University Hospital in Cleveland, OH. He rose to the rank of Major at Wright Paterson Air Force Base in Ohio, before leaving the Air Force in 1962 to open a plastic surgery practice in Fair Lawn and Ridgewood, NJ.

Over the next 35 years, he became one of the top plastic surgeons in Northern NJ. In addition to serving at Hackensack Hospital, he was the assistant chief of plastic surgery at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. 

Vincent and Dorothy along with their children resided in Franklin Lakes for more than 25 years where they were members of Most Blessed Sacrament RC Church.

Dr. Bagli was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, past president of the New Jersey Plastic Surgical Society and a member of the executive committee of the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgery. He was the co-author with Leonard Berlow of “So, you’re going to the hospital.” Dr. Bagli retired 20 years ago to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, where he established and edited a community newsletter.  

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Lalli Bagli, formerly of Peekskill, NY, their 12 children; Charles (Ellie) Bagli, Thomas (Uschi) Bagli, Sister Susan Bagli, Jeanne (William) Jenusaitis, Mary (James) Belsan, Carolyn (Tony) Markus, James (Francine) Bagli, Robert (Jacky) Bagli, Patricia (Brian) Baker, Nancy Bagli, Regina (Andrew) Calcagno, Christopher Bagli and 20 grandchildren.  Predeceased by his younger brother, Robert Bagli in 2009.  

Visiting will be held on Wednesday, March 5 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 6 at 11:00 AM at Most Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 787 Franklin Lakes Rd., Franklin Lakes, NJ. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Vincent’s memory may be made to the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco, Development Office, 659 Belmont Ave., North Haledon, NJ 07058.
