Holiday Reads: Elf Book Penned by Wyckoff Author, Former LA Lakers Player

Resident Robert Skead wrote 'Elves Can't Dunk' with former NBA player A.C. Green.

Wyckoff and Franklin Lakes families looking for a good holiday read don’t need to look too far. Township author Robert Skead has released an ebook version of “Elves Can’t Dunk,” a book he wrote with retired NBA Player AC Green.

“I got the idea for this story many years ago, while attending a very boring NJ Nets game two weeks before Christmas,” Skead told Patch.

“I said to myself, ‘the Nets need to put a cartoon up there on the big screen to entertain me because this game isn't doing it.’ Then it hit me… a story about one of Santa's elves who loved hoops and wanted to play in the NBA, only he was an elf and couldn't dunk.”

To make his idea come to life, Skead teamed up with AC Green, the NBA player known as “Iron Man” for playing in 1,192 straight games, more than any other player in NBA history.

Elves Can’t Dunk was originally published in 2000, but Skead and Green reworked it last year for a re-release as an ebook. According to Skead, the “enhanced” ebook “features Santa’s elves in a basketball adventure along with AC Green sharing tips on how to be a great friend via an exclusive video presentation embedded in the story.”

A portion of the proceeds from the e-sales of the book benefit the AC Green Youth Foundation, which provides youth programs.
