Township Honors 'Outstanding' Retired Police Officers

Two officers who recently retired were thanked for a combined 59 years of service to Wyckoff.

Two officers who retired last month will be "missed tremendously" on the Wyckoff Police Department, township officials said during a presentation this month honoring their service to the township PD.

Sgt. Bob Mackay and Ptl. Andy Poremba, who served 31 and 28 years on the Wyckoff PD respectively, were thanked with plaques at an Oct. 15 meeting of the Wyckoff Township Committee. Wyckoff Police Commissioner Kevin Rooney presented each officer with a plaque with his police badge mounted on it.

Rooney highlighted aspects of each officer's career, including Mackay's time as a DARE officer, head of the traffic bureau, and CPR instructor, and Poremba's extensive training and heading of the police car fleet.

"We can't express all of our sincere thanks," Rooney said to the two "compassionate" officers when presenting the plaques.

Police Chief Benjamin Fox also congratulated the retirees and their families.
