Local Faces: Steve Vaccari

The bagel boss talks soup, jobs, golf and his Wyckoff family.

From moms meeting for coffee to local workers enjoying a communal breakfast the place to be seen is . Franklin Lakes resident and owner Steve Vaccari makes more than 4,500 bagels a week that are gobbled up by the likes of former Giants player Harry Carson and plenty of other discerning bagelphiles.

Food

I eat here! There's nothing like an everything bagel with Nova lox and cream cheese.  I also own Nosher-Rye Deli in Allendale so it's homemade soup — especially my favorite mushroom barley — and a hearty pastrami sandwich with cole slaw and Russian dressing. My family enjoys dining at Oceanos for seafood.

Education

College is important but there are lessons you learn in life that are just as important. My brother-in-law has exposed the family to art and culture and has helped my three children have a well-rounded education of the world.

Entertainment

I love to golf with my son at the in Mahwah or  in Franklin Lakes. My free time is limited owning two eateries so spending time at home relaxing is something I look forward to.

Travel

We visit my wife’s brother and sister-in-law in Florida twice a year. They're my family since my mom was a Holocaust survivor and I didn’t grow up with an extended family. We have been on many amazing vacations and trips together and my favorite was sailing around the Greek Isles.

Issues

What is happening in Washington is upsetting. We need to find a middle ground. I was raised that each generation does better than the next but I'm not so sure anymore. I just hope the kids graduating from college this year will be able to find jobs.

Wyckoff

Wyckoff is the best place to have a business. The community is supportive and I love making personal connections with my customers. Many local high school students work here and the college kids come back to work during their summer break — it's like an extended family.
