Local Faces: Joe Scaglione
"In the Swing" owner gives his wife Cathy the ultimate compliment
The Yankees and Mets — just like local softball and baseball players — are busy training for Opening Day. Wyckoff resident Joe Scaglione has been helping prepare everyone from peewees to college-bound hitters for eight years as co-owner of In the Swing.
Food
I'm Italian, so I naturally love Italian food. My wife Cathy’s linguine and white clam sauce is a better than my grandmother's. I love the mozzarella and basil pizza at in Mahwah. When I can get the family together we enjoy Puzzo’s Family Ristorante in Hawthorne. I really miss Clixes’s on Goffle Road — they had the best chili hot dog.
Travel
I love the beach and water, and some of our favorite family vacations have been spent seaside. I love Naples, Florida — my family owned a home there and I spent my youth vacationing there. I was also fortunate to be able to bring my own family there and created many wonderful memories.

Entertainment
My children are all involved with sports so I spend many days and nights on fields, courts and in gymnasiums. I love to watch my children enjoy sports as much as I do. As a small business owner, I end up spending many hours at In the Swing, but when there is a few precious moments of free time I love being with my children and wife. The simple things like an afternoon by the pool and a family barbecue are really special to me. In the winter, some evening snow tubing at Campgaw is fun.
Education
I graduated Seton Hall and was a pitcher on the Pirates' baseball team. My daughter is studying to be an elementary/special education teacher so my family values the importance of a well-rounded education. She is actually studying this semester “Down Under,” which is not only an educational experience but a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Issues
In this economy, I hope my children are able to find meaningful employment when they graduate college.
Make a Wish
I wish the community would support and patronize small family businesses. Our nation was founded by entrepreneurs and it is this spirit that has helped our economy grow.
Wyckoff
I have lived in town for 14 years and I have been impressed with the education my children received in the and at . I think the offers many wonderful programs for families to spend time together and is an asset to the community.
