Team 'Franklin Lakes Cares' Hosts Autism Speaks Fundraiser

Winter Social will be held at Valley Stables Food & Drink in Oakland next week.

Autism Speaks is having its Annual Walkathon in May, but Team Franklin Lakes Cares is already working to raise money and awareness for the cause.

The team is planning a fundraiser at Valley Stables in Oakland next week. Thirty percent of the proceeds from the event - which will feature food, live entertainment by Jim Gysin, and more – will be donated to the team.

“We are obviously trying to raise money, but also trying to raise awareness,” Mike Smith, a principal at Axis Insurance, said. Smith and Axis are organizing the Franklin Lakes team that will take part in the Northern New Jersey Walk Now for Autism at MetLife Stadium on May 18.

According to Smith, the event at Valley is a social, and all members of the community are welcome to attend.

“[Everybody] is invited, whether they want to walk or not. Our team is looking to raise $10,000 for the cause. We have raised about $2,500 so far.”
