The Pharmacy Technician Certification Program is designed to provide students with the technical and practical training necessary for work as an entry-level assistant to a licensed pharmacist. The program will prepare students to take the nationally certification exams (PTCE and ExCPT). A comprehensive overview of key pharmacy practice concepts will be covered which includes:
• Roles, responsibilities and scope of practice for Pharmacy Technicians
• In-depth review of common drugs, drug classes, formulations
• Pharmaceutical calculations
• Pharmacy laws and regulations
• Basic anatomy and physiology
An optional 120-hour externship is available to program graduates at select retail (Walgreens, Duane Reade, independent pharmacies) and hospital pharmacies (NYU Medical Center, Brooklyn Hospital, and others). The externship will provide students with hands-on, on-the-job training, additional preparation for the national certification exam and networking opportunities. Additional tuition, and fees apply.
