Report: Republican Incumbents Win Reelection to Senate, Assembly

State Senator Kevin O'Toole, and Assemblymen Scott Rumana and David Russo will continue to represent District 40.

Three incumbent Republicans running for state Senate and Assembly positions in District 40 easily won reelection Tuesday, according to reports of unofficial results.

State Senator Kevin O’Toole, and Assemblymen Scott Rumana and David Russo beat out respective challengers William Ashley and Anthony Galietti and Leo Arcuri by healthy margins, nj.com reported early Wednesday morning.

According to unofficial results reported by nj.com, O’Toole earned 66% of the vote, beating Democratic challenger William Ashley. O’Toole received 36,581 votes to Ashley’s 18,850, with 69% of municipalities reporting at 12:06 a.m., nj.com reported.

Rumana and Russo each received about 35% of the Assembly vote, with over 35,000 votes each, with 100% of districts reporting, nj.com said. Galietti and Arcuri received 18% and 17% of the vote, respectively, the report said.

O’Toole, an attorney from Cedar Grove, has been serving as a state senator since 2008. He previously served as a District 40 representative in the General Assembly.

Rumana, an attorney who previously served as the mayor of Wayne, has been an assemblyman since 2008.

Russo, an attorney from Ridgewood, has served on the Assembly since 1990.

The three Democratic challengers were political newcomers.

According to their campaign website, Galietti and Arcuri ran on a platform of  “bipartisan leadership.”

Galietti is the Woodland Park Police Chief, and Arcuri is a financial advisor and small business owner from Wayne.

District 40 is made up of 15 communities including Allendale, Cedar Grove, Franklin Lakes, Ho-Ho-Kus, Little Falls, Midland Park, Pequannock, Pompton Lakes, Ridgewood, Riverdale, Totowa, Waldwick, Wayne, Woodland Park and Wyckoff.
