Week in Review: Library Re-Opens, Heroin, DWI, and Sexual Assault Arrests

Here's what you may have missed...

Saturday morning marked the end of a long rebuilding process and the beginning of a celebration of learning at the .

But before its doors were officially opened, staff, supporters and trustees gathered on a clear, sunny morning just outside the  to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony recognizing many involved in the process.

A Waldwick man arrested for driving while intoxicated in Wyckoff was discovered to have 30 bags of heroin in his pocket, according to police, who say the arrest points to a larger problem of heroin use on the rise among local high school students.

The driver, Patrick Leonard, 31, was spotted by Patrolman Kevin Kasak driving erratically on Franklin Avenue at 11:40 p.m. on May 13, reported Thursday.

Frederick J. Meyer, 21, is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault and distribution of child pornography, authorities said Friday.

The Wisconsin man was arrested for allegedly compelling a nine-year-old Wyckoff girl to masturbate on camera for him and distribute illicit photos online, Bergen County authorities said.

Officials in Ridgewood say their neighbors are taking  to the media because their case is weak. 

The class action suit filed by Wyckoff, Glen Rock and Midland Park in Bergen County's Superior Court seeks $3.3 million in refunds, charging that Ridgewood has "been engaged in sham accounting to artificially inflate the costs of the Water Utility and decrease the expenses of the village."
