Former Wyckoff Mayor Al Patterson Dead at 87

Patterson had lived in Wyckoff for more than 50 years.

Alexander Patterson, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff.

Patterson was born in Paterson, and was a Wyckoff resident from 1960 until his death.

He served on the Wyckoff Township Committee, including two terms as mayor. He also served as chairman of the Board of Directors of AAA North Jersey, according to his obituary.

The Wyckoff Township Committee honored him at a public meeting Tuesday night with a moment of silence.

Patterson was also the treasurer for Senator Henry McNamara and chairman of the board of the North West Bergen Utilities Authority.

He is survived by his children Margaret Marra and her husband Charles, Alexander Patterson and his wife Nan, William E. Patterson, and Jane McGookey and her husband Jeffrey of Caledonia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Scott, Megan, Nicholas, Will, Michelle, Ian, and Mike.

Henriette, Patterson's wife of 53 years, died in 2004. 

Visiting hours were held Tuesday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home. Patterson's funeral service is Wednesday, 10 a.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481, or Abundant Life Reformed Church, 475 Lafayette Ave. Wyckoff, NJ 07481.

Harold Galenkamp, another former Wyckoff mayor, died earlier this year.
