Updated Wyckoff Home With Pre-Revolutionary War Heritage Listed By Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

WYCKOFF, N.J. – (January 15, 2014) –The Van Horn-Ackerman House in Wyckoff dates back to before the Revolutionary War, yet has been expanded and updated through the years into its current form, a well-maintained mix of modern style and Old World charm. The home, barn/garage and 1.1-acre property were recently listed for sale at $750,000 by Carole “Lynn” Brescia, a broker sales associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Wyckoff/Franklin Lakes.

According to the Wyckoff Historical Society, which has a webpage dedicated to the home, the Van Horn-Ackerman House is an example of a “telescope” house because of the way it began as a smaller home on a sandstone foundation between 1744 and 1750 and was expanded with larger sections in the years leading up to the Revolutionary War. The historical society lists British loyalists Barent Van Horn and family as former occupants, and reports that a raid on the home occurred during the war.

The house has a clapboard and stone finish, and rests on a corner lot. The grounds contain manicured gardens, split rail wooden fencing, stone walls and walkways, a patio, a detached two-car garage and ample room for expansion. Inside, the home features three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and three fireplaces.

An entry foyer with wide plank floors enters into the home. The foyer opens to the combined living room/dining room, which features an original fireplace and hardwood floors. The home’s kitchen includes granite counters, newer appliances, hardwood floors and another original fireplace. The kitchen’s ceiling incorporates original wooden beams into its design. Adjacent to the kitchen is a family room that has wide plank floors and another huge, old fireplace. The first floor den could convert to a fourth bedroom, and there is an updated bathroom that completes the first floor.
