Spencer Savings Bank Conducts Mock Job Fair at Eva's Village in Support of the Community Workforce Development Program

Elmwood Park, N.J. (December 9, 2013) – Spencer Savings Bank, a community bank headquartered in Elmwood Park, N.J., demonstrated its continuous support for Eva’s Village, a non-profit social services organization in Paterson, N.J., dedicated to changing the lives of the hungry, homeless and addicted, by hosting a Mock Job Fair for the organization’s clients on November 21, 2013. The Bank conducted interviews, and provided resume assistance and career advancement techniques and guidance.

During the Mock Job Fair, a team of seven volunteers sat with attendees and gave them the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills.  Once the interviews were complete, the Spencer team provided feedback, sharing their own interviewing experiences to help increase attendees’ confidence and offer them reassurance and encouragement, while providing guidance on how to polish their skills.

“We are privileged to support Eva’s Village and the outstanding programs they develop to improve the lives of so many people in our local communities,” said Jose B. Guerrero, Chairman, President and CEO of Spencer Savings Bank. “Having a strong resume and interviewing skills are so important to have in securing your desirable job in the workforce, and we are proud to once again utilize the expertise of our staff to take part in the organization’s Mock Job Fair with the Workforce Development Program. It is through programs like the Mock Job Fair that Eva’s Village is able to assist its clients in accomplishing their goals and achieve long-term personal and professional success.”

Eva’s Village (www.evasvillage.org), originally a New Jersey soup kitchen, was founded in 1982 by Msgr. Vincent E. Puma in response to the increasing incidence of homelessness in his Paterson, NJ parish. But Msgr. Puma soon realized that a soup kitchen was not enough. With the generous support of thousands of donors and private and government grants, Eva's has grown into the most respected anti-poverty program in New Jersey.
