Wyckoff Teens' Small Business Garnering Big Attention

Ramapo students John Douma and Alex Abolt have garnered lots of attention for their Wyckoff grass collection business, which replaces a former municipal service.

After the Wyckoff Township Committee voted to eliminate the curbside collection of grass clippings this year, two entrepreneurial Ramapo High School students saw a business opportunity.

As Patch previous reported, John Douma and Alex Abolt began collecting grass clippings this spring, bringing them to the township's recycling center for residents missing the municipal service.

And the venture has garnered plenty of attention from regional media, including a recent profile from News 12 New Jersey and a feature on WABC Tuesday night.

The two teens have expanded from their original niche, they told ABC's Tim Fleischer. "This opened up a lot of people calling us and asking us if we would move stuff or mulch or cut grass, we do anything," Douma said.

Wyckoff residents still looking for a haul for their glass clippings can reach the business, which charges $50 a month, at doumajohn.a@gmail.com.
