Photos: Close Knit Gets Yarn Bombed

This brand of street art uses knitted and crocheted fabric

One tree in the heart of Wyckoff just got a little bit cooler.

Carissa Mulloy, co-owner of at 300 Franklin Ave., sent us this photo of a recently "yarn bombed" tree near the corner of Franklin and Godwin avenues.

"Yarn Bombing is a form of street art which uses knitted and crocheted pieces of fabric," said Mulloy. "It has become a worldwide craze among handwork circles, originating in the Netherlands in 2004.  The temporary "graffiti" does not harm the tree in any way and will be maintained by the store."

Swatches for Close Knit's bombing were donated by employees and customers and include multiple yarns, a crochet square, several knitted cables, and texture work with swatches spelling out the word "love," according to Mulloy.

The yarn store, which recently underwent a change in ownership, sells yarn, accessories and patterns, and now has late night hours, extended class schedules and additional knitting and crochet social groups.
