Wyckoff Native Driving Profits in Hollywood

Wyckoff native Kirk DeMicco's "The Croods" is reportedly responsible for a surge in profits at DreamWorks Animation.

When DreamWorks Animation released its quarterly report Wednesday, it revealed local screenwriter Kirk DeMicco’s “The Croods” was shown in the driver’s seat of a surge in profits for the company.

The company’s revenues were up more than $22 million over the same period last year, according to deadline.com. And “The Croods” showed to be its most profitable venture, raking in $71.8 million of DreamWorks’ $189.7 million in quarterly profits.

DeMicco, a former Wyckoff resident who attended Sicomac Elementary, Eisenhower Middle School and Ramapo High School, returned to Bergen County in 2012 for a prerelease screening of the film for friends and family.

“DreamWorks Animation significantly outperformed in the second quarter, thanks primarily to ‘The Croods’ incredibly successful box office run,” the company’s CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg, told deadline.com.

DeMicco and DreamWorks announced in April that a sequel to the successful movie is in the works.
