Wyckoff 9-Year-Old Performs Original Composition at National Concert

Kid composer Jonathan Hartanto traveled to Arizona for a national Yamaha piano concert this weekend.

A kid composer from Wyckoff is playing for a big audience.

Jonathan Hartanto, 9, of Wyckoff, performed an original composition entitled “The Waddling Penguins” at the Yamaha 2014 U.S. National Junior Original Concert on Sunday, June 15, at the Virginia Piper Theater of the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Ariz. 

The company's Junior Original Concert (JOC) program offers Yamaha Music School students aged 15 or younger the opportunity to perform their own compositions in concerts around the world.

Jonathan started composing two years ago and has already won at National and International levels of the Golden Key Festival for his piece “The Waddling Penguins,” which he performed this weekend.

He hopes to see Emperor penguins, his muses, in Antarctica some day. 

In 2013, the American Red Cross recognized him for supporting Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts by collecting donations from his peers.
