Sicomac 5th Grader Wants to Bring "The Boss" to Show and Tell

Macie Sparozic has a YouTube Plea to New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen.

Sicomac fifth grader Macie Sparozic is working on a dream to bring "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen into school for Show and Tell.

You see, she has a teacher, Gail Cordello, who happens “to be the best ever” as well as a major Springsteen fan. Cordello, of 5C, seems to have made a great impression on her student who claims to have never even made a peep in the classroom.

“I never spoke up until now,” said the soft-spoken little girl with a face full of freckles.  Macie whipped out her Mom Bev’s lap top and proudly pulled up the YouTube Video she made as a plea to Springsteen.  What followed was a film clip of a very dedicated student, reading in earnest from a letter she drafted “all by myself.”

Cordello, whose classroom is decorated with posters of Springsteen, has shared her enthusiasm with the New Jersey rocker whom she admires as a role model to adults and kids.

“We even take ‘Bruce Breaks’,” said Macie, who explained when the class was struggling with a writing project, Cordello would often tell the kids to close their books and watch a Springsteen video for inspiration. Productivity spiked as Springsteen strutted back and forth on a stage, strumming his guitar enthusiastically as he sang with passion.

Cordello’s student comes from a long line of Bruce fans as Macie’s dad Michael is also a long time fan.  Her sister Felicia, a Ramapo High School Junior, also had  Cordello and is an avid fan of Springsteen’s.

In her YouTube video, Macie very logically outlines the reasons why Bruce should visit 5C.  She uses statistics pointing out the evolving math skills taught by Cordello.  The future accountant tells The Boss that if her teacher taught an average of 25 students in each of the 25 years she has been teaching, that would amount to at least 625 new Bruce fans, not to mention extended family and friends!

“Will you please, please PLEASE come Mrs. Cordello’s class,” Macie asks softly, “She is everything you write about.”

“Mrs. Cordello told us that if you want your dreams to come true, you have to keep working on them and this is what I did,” said Macie, who has already put her family to work passing along her video via all of their Facebook Friends. (Macie’s Mom wisely monitors her enthusiastic daughter saying she is too young to have unlimited access to the Internet.)

As of this writing, Macie has already counted nearly 900 hits; the news of the eleven year old’s video is going viral-at least in Wyckoff. “I have seen Bruce Springsteen in concert at least ten times,” she said glowing proudly in her blue speckled fifth grade t-shirt. "Our family even took Mrs. Cordello once."

Glory Days indeed.
