Ramapo Indian Hills Dancers Coming Together to Battle Pancreatic Cancer

"Something To Dance For" will feature dancers and choreographers from both Ramapo and Indian Hills high schools and all proceeds will benefit the Lustgarten Foundation.

The Ramapo Indian Hills Dance Group is hosting its first annual dance benefit on Friday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.in the Indian Hills High School Auditorium.

The dance group is relatively new to the school district, according to Organizer Nancy Hafers.

"They began two years ago, when a student petitioned the Board of Education, to allow the dancers to meet and perform," she said. "Their membership has steadily grown during this time, and they performed last year in FLOW Follies."

The group is sponsoring its first annual dance benefit, featuring dancers and choreographers from both high schools in a wide genre of dance styes.

"[The group is] happy to provide an opportunity for dancers to share their talents within their school and local community and to raise money for a good cause," Hafers said. "Many worthwhile charities were suggested by the members, who voted this year to donate all proceeds to the Lustgarten Foundation.

The Lustgarten Foundation is non-profit group working to develop a cure, improve treatment and diagnosis, as well as public awareness for pancreatic cancer.

The charity was initially suggested by one of the dancers whose grandfather died of this disease just last year, Hafers said.

"The group intends for this to become an annual charity event," she added. "Please come and support these young dancers and enjoy a wonderful celebration of dance."

"Something To Dance For" will feature dancers and choreographers from both Ramapo and Indian Hills high schools and all proceeds will benefit the Lustgarten Foundation.

Tickets cost $10 for general admission or $8 for seniors.
