Ramapo Grad Comes Back Home for Premiere of 'The Croods'

Kirk DeMicco's film opens nationwide on March 22.

Friends and family gathered Saturday in a full theater at the AMC Garden State 16 in Paramus to attend a private screening of former Wyckoff resident, Kirk DeMicco's newest film, "The Croods."

At 43, DeMicco a Sicomac Elementary School, Eisenhower Middle School and Ramapo High School alum has returned back to his original cave to wow his old pals with his latest creation.

Judging by the laughter, DeMicco, whose past writing credits include Space ChimpsRacing Stripes and Quest for Camelot, has made his mark.

The 3D animation follows the prehistoric Croods family on their first-time journey outside the comforts of their cave.

Voiced by Nicolas Cage, Grug is your typical cave dad — protective, gruff and unwilling to accept the changes that go along with raising a pre-teen daughter.

Eep, voiced by Emma Stone, pushes the limits as most young girls do and helps her father realize that living safe isn't really living at all. The rest of the family make equally important contributions to the film in their own right.

Not only will kids enjoy the characters and highly visual landscape, but parents who take their kids can truly relate to the trials and tribulations of raising a family and doing what it takes to come out "whole" on the other end.

There is also Eep's love interest, Guy, voiced by Ryan Reynolds, who introduces the Croods' to fire and sparks change, growth and challenges in for the family.

Overall, "The Croods" is a slam-dunk for the whole family, offering humor, action, drama and suspense.

What more could you want from one film? Especially one that's from one of Wyckoff's own?

The film opens March 22.
