Indian Hills H.S. Girls Varsity Softball Teams Wins Group III State Championship

The team and coaches were honored at the Tuesday night Wyckoff Township Committee meeting.

The Wyckoff Township Committee honored the Indian Hills High School Girls Varsity Softball team at the committee meeting Tuesday night for their defeat over Ewing High School on June 7th to become the New Jersey Group III State Champions.

The game took place at Toms River North High School with a final score of 8-5, leaving the Indian Hills H.S. team as the only undefeated softball varsity team in New Jersey for the 2014 season. The girls softball team had also won the 2014 Bergen County Softball Championship and the Big North Conference Freedom Division with a record of 10 wins and 0 losses for the 2014 season. The girls varsity team has also set an overall record for New Jersey for most wins ever, with a record of 34 wins and 0 losses this season.

The Wyckoff Township Committee gave recognition to the girls varsity team for being ranked 14th in the country by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and 13th in the country by the Max Preps National Poll.

The Wyckoff Township Committee honored Seniors Kelsey Coughlin, Devin Durando, Julia Ferraro, Nicole Leocata, Madison Levine, and Kelsey Oltmanns; Juniors Shelby Allen, Gabrielle Aversa, Katelin Clancy, Julia Collins, Karley Jo Greulich, Zoe Johnson, Nicole Palin, and Amanda Shepard; and Sophomores Gina DeOliveira, and Nicole Mellone, as well as head coach Joe Leicht and assistant coaches Phil Lomenzo and Bob Alexander for achieving the "extraordinary awards and honors by virtue of their commitment to unselfish team play, tireless work ethic, outstanding softball skills, and their overall commitment to the game of softball".
