Halloween is this Monday, which means the holiday season is officially here.
Abma’s Farm Market and Nursery in Wyckoff probably has what you need to help get into the spirit of the season. If you’ve waited until the last minute to get your pumpkins, you’re in luck — Saturday, Oct. 29 is Doggie Day, and families are invited to bring their pets along to the pumpkin patch.
Abma’s will donate $1 to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge for every dog that goes along for the ride.
RBARI dates back to the 1970s, and Abma’s back to the 1790s — over the years, both have become important Bergen County fixtures enriched by the people who frequent them.
“We’re part of the community,” Pam Abma said. “Our customers are like our friends and family.”
She noted that many of the farmers and the cashiers know their shoppers by name because many of them have been coming to the market for years. In addition to a variety of produce, Abma’s offers a wide range of goods to enrich your holiday season, like homemade pies, gravies, dressings and soups.
They're even taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys.
“We really are more of a family-fun destination, not just a store for shopping,” Abma said. “Parents sometimes end up being here for longer than they bargained for because their kids always want to go see the animals.”
Abma’s petting zoo is free and open year-round. They've got goats, sheep, rabbits, turkeys, pheasants, chickens, horses and a cow. The farm also offers pony rides for $3.
Hayrides depart from Lawlin’s Park every 15 minutes from 11 p.m. to 4 p.m., and this Saturday is the last day for hayrides this season. The cost is $5 a person (dogs ride for free on Doggie Day.) Reservations are not needed.
