Christian Health Care Center Residents Participate in Alzheimer's Association Longest Day Event
In honor of Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, staff and residents of Christian Health Care Center walked in support of a cure. The Alzheimer’s Association holds its Longest Day event annually, encouraging participants to do something they love for the duration of the day. The walk was held on CHCC’s Spirit Path, a tree-lined walking path giving residents and their families an opportunity to exercise or take a moment for quiet reflection while enjoying time together outside.
“Our residents enjoy the outdoors and it is one of their favorite activities,” said Suzanne Gramuglia, Heritage Manor Nursing Home and Southgate Activities Director. “We thought it would be the perfect fit to bring residents and staff together to help increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, while bringing smiles and enjoyment to the residents.”
Currently more than five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Although causes are unknown, medication is available to help reduce the symptoms of those affected.

every week and residents are able to engage in various other social and recreational activities daily.
“We are fortunate to have such outstanding programs for residents with Alzheimer’s disease, and our staff is doing everything they can to lessen the impact of this terrible disease on its victims,” said Pamela Rooney, CALA, CTRS, ADC, Longview Administrator.
