Christian Health Care Adult Day Services Client Recognized by Local and National Figures on 100th Birthday

Fair Lawn resident Evelyn Zeman, a client for 10 years at Christian Health Care Adult Day Services of Wyckoff, recently celebrated her 100th birthday at a special party at the program. Bergen County Clerk John Hogan presented her with a Certificate of Recognition acknowledging her 100 years and also presented her with a Certificate of Commendation from the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Mrs. Zeman also received a letter of congratulations from President Barack             and Michelle Obama, as well as a letter from Willard Scott of NBC News and the Today Show.

Mrs. Zeman is a unique woman with a variety of interests and life experiences. Very committed to education, she continued to take college courses until she was 98 and was the oldest student at Bergen Community College. Born and raised in Irvington, she took jobs at an early age to help with       household expenses and her education, including factory work and waitressing at the Jersey shore. In fact, her work ethic allowed her to save her family home from being lost due to a tax debt. She taught art for 10 years until she started a family. She earned a master’s degree in education, and when her children were in grade school, she returned to the workforce and taught elementary school for many years. Mrs. Zeman’s interests include art and its history, raising Monach butterflies, and traveling, including trips to Russia, Australia, and New Zealand.

“Evelyn has come a long way from waiting tables at the Jersey Shore and working in a factory at the age of 16,” said MJ Paulison, Christian Health Care Adult Day Services Assistant Administrator     and Activities Director. “She is accomplished and astounding and a wealth of information for people of all ages.”
