Joined by soloists Elizabeth Smith, David Kellett, and Daniel Klein, the chorus will be led by Music Director Dusty Francis in his debut performance as conductor. Preceded by a free pre-concert lecture with New Jersey’s exciting percussion group, EXIT 9, at 7pm, tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door; no purchase required for children 12 and under. Visit www.arsmusica.org or call 551- 226-9305.

Driving rhythms and a bacchanalian spirit define Orff’s magnum opus. With themes of love, lust, and the inexorable turn of fortune’s wheel, Carmina Burana has become one of the twentieth century’s most beloved works.  The opening motif, featuring the well-known percussive sounds of “O Fortuna” and heard again in the final movement, is ubiquitously present both in concert halls and commercials.

Opening the program is the Neue Liebeslieder by Johannes Brahms. These sophisticated waltzes, with passionate texts of love by Daumer and Goethe, are a distinct contrast to the Orff. The ensemble movements highlight brilliant choral effects: listen for crashing waves and the gloomy hush of adark forest.
